Plugged In???

One evening, a little while ago, I went to turn off the lamps in our living room. Everything seemed normal as I switched off each lamp one by one. As I turned  the last knob on the last lamp, it broke off in my hand. When I looked more closely where the knob had broken off I determined, after a little effort, that there was not enough of the knob remaining to be able to grab it—let alone turn it to get the light off. The only way I could turn the lamp off was to unplug it. That took some effort, given all the items that were stacked in front of the receptacle at that time.
This episode got me thinking. Jesus said that we are the light of the world. You can find it in Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
If we are light, and the light of the world of all things, then we should not have a knob to enable us to be turned off. But more importantly we need to stay plugged in to the source of our power. In John 14, Jesus talked about the need to remain in him.
4 “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
The light switch is fixed, thanks to my husband Paul. And I can turn that lamp in the living room on and off whenever I want. But as to my light—well I am going to stay plugged in, turned on and I’m going to let it shine! What about you?

Staying bright

PS. I love the pic I found on the internet of the pendant light with the coloured cord. You can click it and check out the website where they sell them. I like to think that I am like that lime green cord
—vibrant full of life. Or maybe the bright pink—a bit shocking ;) or perhaps the purple... what colour would you be?
